One Trunk Collective is the work of contemporary dancer, Christine Birch and multidisciplinary performer and writer Andraea Sartison. Tired with the traditional structure of plays and dance performance the collective seeks to find the trunk of where all artistic disciplines begin and branch out to create innovative performance styles. By combining various dance and theatre techniques intertwined with new media and live music they are a company constantly pushing the envelop. The goal is to find captivating ways to entertain, engage, communicate and create.

The TAB

So folks, if you were wondering who those sexy-knife-wielding women were on the front page of The TAB (the Winnipeg Free Press' weekly arts insert) then look no further: it was us! The women of The Big Gravel Sifter.

We can't blame you for wondering though when there was no mention of us anywhere in the paper! Not even a caption for the photo. No name of the show, the company, the women in the photo OR the photographer. A very disapointing (and amateur mistake) from Winnipeg's most influential paper. Look for a sweet explanation and some more details on our show in next week's TAB.

All in all though the show continues charming and we are enjoying adding in layers of puppets and Anne Bogart choreo (at least this is what Coral said it looked like, I'm just an actor though, so who knows). We are so busy deciphering and dreaming and trying to get to the heart of this fairytale dream. It's combining a truly viceral and linear human world with the magic and fantasy of the sea, where we are searching for a fine balance. We continue to learn about each other as artists and as people as we build this show. CindyMarie called the process like making a sculpture: it is already all there, but we have to continue to chip away at the story and shape it to find what it is meant to be.
